Please note that the County is soliciting nominations for the Bill Thomas Park Service Award.  There are actually two awards, a youth award and an adult award.  It is on a pretty short turn around with the applications due by the end of this month.  The application is not extensive.    I have copied the flyer below and have attached the application but do not know if it will carry on a yahoo list.  If not, the information for obtaining the application is on the flyer or send me an e-mail anad I will send it off line.  SUZ

 



THE BILL THOMAS PARK SERVICE AWARD
Acknowledging outstanding service in support of parks, recreation and natural areas of Arlington County


Through the Park and Recreation Commission, the County recognizes an Arlington adult and youth resident for outstanding dedication and service to Arlington County parks, recreation and natural areas, who have worked for the betterment of the County's cultural, recreational, aesthetic, horticultural or historical resources in connection with Arlington County’s parks and leisure opportunities.

Nominations are judged on the basis of the nominee’s direct involvement with an activity or contribution. 
∑ A contribution is the giving of personal time or expertise for the betterment of the natural, cultural, recreational, environmental, aesthetic, horticultural or historical resources in connection with Arlington County’s parks, environment and leisure opportunities. 
∑ The contribution upon which the nomination is based must have been completed prior to the year of selection.
∑ The award may be for a specific accomplishment or for an accumulation of accomplishments over an extended period of time.
∑ The giving of a tangible gift or donation, such as land, facilities, equipment or money, are not considered qualifications for the award.

Eligibility for The Bill Thomas Park Service Award is open to individual citizens, groups and organizations. Excluded from nomination for the award are current members of the Arlington County Board and Arlington Park and Recreation Commission.
 
Award recipients’ names are inscribed on a bronze plaque that is on permanent public display. Recipients also receive an individual plaque.

Anyone may submit a nomination for The Bill Thomas Park Service Award. 

The deadline for submitting nominations for this year’s award 5:00 December 29, 2006 (emails and faxes can be in by midnight, December 31). Contact Mary Ellen Snyder (msnyder@..., 703-228-3322) for a nomination form.
