Later, Touche' Turtle had the lump of coal tested
in an attempt to determine what part of the country
it had come from. But the coal didn't seem to match
any type of coal found anywhere. It was as if it had
come from out of this world! What had seemed to be an
important clue had led nowhere. For once, the heroic turtle
was stumped.

HELP!! Tommy has just woke up as from yesterday.
We have inherited him from a relative who has fallen
ill. My question is for the feeding and care. He has
always lived outdoors in a little pen with a little box
and some straw in it in the summer and then brought
indoors for winter hybernation. Please help!! <br><br>BC

Snograss laughed evilly in his dark hideout.
Although he knew that Touche' Turtle had captured an
important clue in the piece of coal that Timmy had been
carrying around, he didn't think anyone would ever realize
it's significance. He wondered aloud why only the dog
was named "Dum--Dum". He was beginning to think that
not only the dog should be named that, but also
Touche' Turtle, Bebop, and just about everyone else he
could think of. Except for himself. He'd show them all.

Sounds like he is a land tortoise.Make sure he
has plenty water to drink. It may be a couple days
before he starts eating. All turtles love earth worms.
You can also offer him fruit & veggies. Some will eat
cat & dog food too. Do you know what type of turtle
he is?

Suddenly Snograss heard other laughter, laughter
that seemed to come from out of nowhere. And then he
heard a voice. One that he wasn't particularly happy to
hear. The voice of Bebop! "Beware the Bebop!" it said.
Then, once again, everything was quiet. Snograss shook
with anger. "BEBOP!" he shouted, "BEWARE THE
SNOGRASS!" But Bebop wasn't listening...

anyone out there know what I can do to treat uric acid with my sulcata, Nannah.
My vet says that it is natural and that there is no harm to Nannah, but it still
makes me nervous.

Uric acid does not require treatment. It is the normal way that a turtle or
tortoise eliminates...similar to birds. :)<br><br>Janice

why do you say no cat or dog food? My snapper eats mostly dog food & has for
years. dog food has more calsium in it than store bought turtle food.

Dog food has too much protein and too much phosphate. It can cause metabolic
bone disease.<br><br>Janice

I say no wet dog/cat food because that's what the
breeder that gave me Fred told me. She has been breeding
endangered turtles for over 50 years, has 2 acres of just
turtles, and has OVER 50 species and OVER 500 turtles. She
says that dog/cat food has to much protein and that
the turtles can't process it all.

I've been feeding my snapper the dry stuff- but it
getts wet in the water... <br>ya learn something new
every day, but he's a big guy too. I've had him for
about five years. of course he eats other stuff too-

I don't know about the dry dog/cat food. Yes, i
was talking about the kind in the can. When you're at
the store compare the dry to the wet and decide if
you want to risk it. I feed 'Fred' Reptomin Floating
Food Sticks and he LOVES them. You let them soak in
water for a minute or so then you give them to the
turtle. Yes, i know these are for water turtles, but they
do wonders for the box
turtles.<br><br><br>~Jen~<br><a href=http://www.petperson.friendpages.com

Actually, you should try to get your boxie on a more "vegetarian" diet. Think
what they eat in the wild...they graze on plants and berries with an occasional
worm or bug thrown in.<br><br>Janice

All turtle/tortoise topics are welcome. If anyone
is interested in saling or trading pets they should
do so by email & follow laws govering their state &
country. Members looking for pets can post their request
along with their email address for replies.Same for
those who need to find homes for extra pets they may
have. <br>Remeber once a pet always a pet- never turn a
pet turtle lose in the wild & never remove a wild
turtle from is natural habitat. Only buy captive bred
turtles- protect endangered species. That is our motto.
Long Live the Turtle!

A lot depends on just what kind of turtle or
tortoise it is. Tortoises eat mainly a salad mixture of
greens, shredded carrots, cucumbers etc. with some fruits
occasionally. Box turtles will eat some veggies and fruits but
take more of a liking to worms, snails, slugs and
bugs.<br><br>Best to identify just what you have,

I hadn't seen my large snapper yet this Spring,
so I dug him up- worried that I might have to bury
him. But he's fine- just a late sleeper. He went into
an early hiebernation. I was worried that he may not
have eaten enough to survive seven & a half months of
sleep. And the tempertures have been getting into the
50's . any way I got him out of his mud hole (he was
buried at least a foot down) & put him in a pool so I
can keep an eye on him. He's a big guy- at least ten
pounds & I'm guessing about ten years old. I've had him
about five years. His name is Johnson.

Touche was getting Spring fever, it was hard for
him to consintrait (sp) on the job at hand. He wanted
to go romance his lady friend. But he knew no
turtles would be safe until Snograss was put out of
mission! He hoped his little darlin would not think he had
forgotten about her. How could he ever forget his turtle
princess? He hoped the Valentine he had delivered to her
would explain . She was usually so understanding about
his hero work. Three little golden flying turtles had
personally delivered the love note to her on valentines day.
<br>He didn't know about the April fools day joke Dum
Dum had played on her. A joke which had backfired &
now Dum Dum was afraid to tell Touche about it.

Our two box turtles have come out of hibernation now and are crawling around
again. They usually do around this time in spring, when it starts to get warmer
again.

Meanwhile, the Turtle Lady, Touche's dear
sweetheart, was puzzled by the valentine that she thought
Touche' Turtle had sent her. It was a piece of coal. She
had no way of knowing that Dum--Dum had switched it
for Touche's valentine as a joke. And she also had no
way of knowing that it was a vital and now lost clue
for the whereabouts of the Judge's evil secret
hideout...

You can use nail polish, it won't harm them, but it does wear off after awhile.

Tessie turtle was tired of sitting around the
phone waiting for Touche to call. Everything & everyone
was more important than her! Then to be insulted with
a piece of coal-that was just too much! Touche
could just go take a flying leap if & when he could
make time for her. She was going to go down to the
beach & see what the other turtles were doing. She
tossed the piece of coal into the waste-paper basket.
<br><br>She was no sooner out the door when the phone rang.
Her machine picked it up.<br>"Hello Tessie honey.I'm
getting off work early today so we can have dinner, how
about I pick you up at 8:00? I love you sweety-tweety
sugar-pie, see ya at eight" <br>After Touche hung up he
called the floist & had two dozens roses sent to her. He
was relievied that she wasnt involved in this mess
with Snograss. at least she wasn't in danger. But it
did puzzle him that he got her answering machine. He
called her at the same time every day & this was he
first time she wasn't there.
