VISMIG through a Pennine Moorland Clough.
The VisMig group is for use by those with an active interest in visible migration of birds. Visible migration is essentially bird movement that can be counted - e.g. 255 Redwings west in 1 hour. It does not include stopovers of ducks and geese at reservoirs, or falls of night migrants (warblers and the like) as their migration is invisible (until we all have a personal radar!).
At the moment, the group is focussed on observers in the north of England - especially those counting vis migration over inland sites in the Pennines, but we are interested for comparison, in receiving counts from anywhere in the north/centre of England from Norfolk to Wales, Yorkshire to Lancashire...
The aim of the group this autumn (autumn 2009) is to improve communication by exchange of information and discussion daily on interesting movements, larger numbers than usual, interesting species etc. so that all observers (or "spotteurs" as we're called in France) are aware of what's happening elsewhere. This information should be posted on this Yahoo group in the form of a simple paragraph.

TESTING - TESTING
The VisMig newsgroup is experimental. It has been equiped with most of the tools and information sources (at the click of a mouse) to assist all to appreciate the background behind the movements and hopefully induce even more enjoyment from this compulsive birding activity.
