Last night at dog obedience class Greta did not act like she usually
does and even showed some dominance with another dominant male dog.
(she never does this)
The lady who is teaching our classes looked at Greta after class and
said she thought Great was in a silent heat after we talked. I have
seen some clear/straw colored stringing discharge a couple times over
the last 3 or 4 days. She is extemely swollen and has been a wild
dog. She has never given me any trouble since we got her at the end
of the May. We do not crate her. Tonight we were gone for maybe 20
minutes and when we came home she had been in the trash, dragged
strawberries scraps all over the white carpet, tore up a pillow,
chewed up a pencil, - which she got off the counter.
Tell me what I need to know- Because I have never had a dog that was
not fixed. Greta was one Aug 6. Could her heat make her act up ?
If it is truely a silent heat, what do I need to know about silent
heats ? She has done this one other time back in Aug. I had talked
to the vet then and he thought she was either coming in or out of
heat- was swollen then but not nearly as much as she is now.

Thanks for any information.

Jenny

The main thing you need to do is keep her away from males. First heats are sometimes pretty goofy. She is probably not very far into it. When the swelling...

If she is just starting to swell, she may soon have a bright red discharge. What does your vet say? Mine have always swelled first and then in a very few days...

A fixed male may still mount and do the act. Subjecting them and her to the experience wouldn't be cool.  Leslie Like Silver Rain Weimaraners Hillsboro,...
